About us

The department of physics was established in the year 2015 with an objective to primarily impart post-graduation degree in physics. The objective was to develop research-oriented minds through teaching of highest caliber and rigorous training in both experimental as well as theoretical physics. To make learning of physics, a fundamental science, interesting and exciting, we envision a high standard of teaching driven by curiosity and creativity. We are also focussed to develop the key infrastructure for quality research at the department. To demonstrate the importance of physics in zeitgeist research and to inculcate a problem-solving approach in students, regular tutorials have been incorporated into the teaching where problems of research interest are also discussed along with the routine problems of academic interest. The program also explores new learning paradigms based upon an understanding of requirements necessary to position postgraduates for future competitive success. Therefore, Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) is followed. The CBCS pattern is a versatile one enabling a student to choose courses of his/her interest from the other fields as well, thus inculcating a multidisciplinary approach in him/her. So far, three PG batches were produced by the department. The Department has also started Ph. D program from the year 2020. The department has a well-qualified, dynamic, dedicated and experienced faculty with a wide range of specializations. The young faculty believes in establishing new ways of pedagogy in which a student is given every kind of freedom and support to learn physics and strive towards developing a true scholarship. In order to let the students have the feel of teaching at reputed institutes like IITs, eminent professors from various institutes of the country have been invited to the department to deliver a series of lectures on the course offered by our department. The department has a well-equipped general physics laboratory for B. Tech and M.Sc. Physics courses separately and an optics laboratory. The department has its own library facility with wide variety of books available on physics. The department has conducted several workshops, faculty development programs and conferences during last few years of its establishment. The faculty of the department has published many research papers in reputed international journals during the last 5 years and have participated and presented research papers in various national and international conferences in India and abroad. Besides, the department is also expecting to start B. Sc. (Hons.) in physics in future.
