Introduction |
| Mechanical engineers play a significant role in various contemporary and interdisciplinary fields such as Digital
Manufacturing (3D Printing), Mechatronics, MEMS, Robotics, Haptics, etc. These contemporary areas among a
very few are referred to as exponential or disruptive technologies, given the impact of theirs in changing the
society at large. The undergraduate program, Bachelors of Technology (B. Tech) in Mechanical Engineering is a four year degree
program comprising of eight semesters, with each semester spanning to almost four and a half months duration.
The program is proposed to be little unconventional one, with the emphasis on contemporary areas in
mechanical engineering, along with the flexibility of Choice Based Credit System (CBCS), as followed in various
IIT’s and Foreign Universities.

Carrer Prospectus |
| The future prospects of this discipline are considerable:
- You can become an Entrepreneur. A start-up in the form of a manufacturing unit (micro, small or
medium enterprise). A successful start-up would earn you the most out of the rest of following options.
- You can pursue higher studies like M. Tech and PhD in various fields, such as Robotics, Design,
Production, Industrial Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Mechatronics, etc. The experience developed
would enable you to become Scientists in various Central Government Research Labs of DRDO, CSIR,
DST, BARC, CMERI, IGCAR, etc.
- In addition PhD and Post Doctorate Fellowships can be pursued which would enable you to become a
Researcher and a Scientist in your area, with Teaching as a Profession.
- You can also opt for a Job in State Government Sector (Junior Engineer through Service Selection Board)
or (Assistant Engineer through Public Service Commission).
- You have considerable demand in the gulf (Middle East) for the qualified mechanical engineers
(Especially in Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, Production Units, etc.)
- You can also opt for Civil Services in Engineering (Indian Engineering Services, IES) and secure a highly
respected and responsible position in Central Government Sectors.
- You can also pursue MBA as an added profile and become qualified managers and efficient planners for
the Industry.
