The Department of Computer Science is one of the pioneering departments of Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST) Kashmir, J&K. The Department at present offer two-year duration postgraduate programs of Master of Computer Applications (MCA) and Master of Science in Information Technology (MSc.IT) with student intake capacity of 60 and 20 respectively. With a strength of around 13 research scholars registered in PhD program, the department continuously strives to conduct cutting-edge research in all areas across Computer Science.

The Master of Computer Applications (MCA) flagship program of the department aims to prepare students with the core competence of developing high-quality production-grade software, while also cultivating the skill set to keep abreast with the latest technologies. Besides having an industry-oriented curriculum, the department facilitates an industrial training to students in their final semester at leading organizations like HCL, Global Talent Track (GTT), Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (CDAC) and many more like, to expose them to latest technologies and make them highly professional & employable. The students further undertake major projects work in their final semester which can span across the spectrum of Computer Science - from Database Systems & Computer Networks to Software Engineering, and more recently Machine Learning & Deep Learning. During the project work, students get an opportunity to gain experience working closely with an experienced industry mentor and apply what they learn during their first three semesters in the classroom. The MCA graduates of the department are holding prestigious positions in industry, academia both in India and abroad.

Master of Science in Information Technology (MSc.IT) is another prestigious program offered by the department that aims to master foundational areas of Information & Communication Technology. In-addition to mastering foundational theoretical concepts & skill set, it focusses to inculcate creative thinking among the students through its final semester major project work. The standard & high-quality project work stretches across diverse areas like Algorithms, Parallel Computing, Computer Security, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Networks, as well as interdisciplinary areas like Human-Computer Interaction, applied Machine Learning etc.

A decade later, our alumni have gone on to pursue doctoral studies at top universities in India like JMI, JNU, Thapar Institute and abroad like Iran, Saudi Arabia, Korea etc. The Department is proud to be part of a 600 strong-alumni-network, many of whom hold influential positions in the Information Technology industry and academia, at both national & international levels.
