It is an honour for me to have the opportunity to serve as the Head of the Department of Economics and strive to take forward the vision envisaged by its founders. Recognizing the increasing role of the Discipline in the development of the nation at large and Jammu and Kashmir in particular, the University established the Department of Economics in 2017 beginning with M.A. Economics program. Within this short period since its inception, the Department has rapidly climbed the growth ladder. Currently we offer M.A and Ph.D. programmes in Economics and are preparing to offer B.A Hons. (Economics) in the near future. We have a highly competent group of faculty members bringing exposure and experience from some of the prestigious Institutes and Universities in India. Our faculty believes in achieving academic excellence both in teaching and research. They are well equipped to embrace new pedagogies and leverage cutting-edge technology to enhance the effectiveness of their teaching. The faculty upholds the student-centric approach and endeavour to unfold students' intellectual abilities to their maximum capacity, while providing them a conducive environment to become independent thinkers.
