About us
The Department of Food Technology was established in the year 2006 and is equipped with modern infrastructure, state of art laboratories, and well qualified resource personnel. The Department of Food Technology aims to provide students with basic and advanced knowledge of food technology to acquaint them with the practical applications of the subject.
Faculties of the Department are involved in high quality research and publications in reputed journals. Many projects have been initiated and carried out in the department, which are funded by Central government agencies like DBT, UGC, MOFPI, DST, MHRD, and SERB. As part of imparting practical knowledge to the students, industry visits that form a curricular component, are organized that widen their horizon of thinking and upgrade their skills. The Department not only strives for academic excellence, but has also developed a strong liaison with the premier institutions like Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, SLIET Longowal, NDRI Karnal, NIT Rourkela and ICT Mumbai to share research experiences and facilities to aid in developing trained human resource for industries.
The Department of Food Technology has established Food Quality Control laboratory par excellence, for the assessment of the quality of food products manufactured in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The laboratory has also received accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL). Entrepreneurship development workshops aimed at motivating local youth to start their own enterprises are also organized regularly.
