Our vision is to undertake quality research on disasters with a multi-disciplinary approach, be a premier Centre of Excellence in research, strive relentlessly through proactive measures, national and international collaborations, and innovative solutions towards minimizing the risk of disasters on lives, livelihoods, and ecosystems.

Our mission is to cultivate a cutting-edge research environment using interdisciplinary approaches, fostering collaborations with other institutions, implement innovative solutions, promote awareness, enhance outreach, training and capacity building services among the individuals, institutions, and communities to proactively reduce the risk of disasters, and ensuring the well-being and prosperity of all. The following disciplines or their combinations are expected for the doctoral research at the CDRR;  Earthquake  Avalanche and Glacial hazards  Landslides and land subsidence  Climate Change and Associated disasters  Water Resources including floods and droughts  Water Quality and health  Volcanoes  Forest and wild fire  Various Man-made disasters All these themes can be taken for doctoral research with the help of the faculty available in the IUST as well as with the faculties elsewhere using active collaborations.
