Friends, to leverage and extend the benefits of science and technology, linking science and society should be our prime purpose today. The Mantaqi Centre for Science & Society aims at building scientific temper through inter and multidisciplinary scholarship, research and action. To be in sync with NEP 2020, the Centre is working on multidisciplinary subject involvement be that pure natural sciences, sociology, ecology, disaster management, history, philosophy, political economy, gender studies and the pure scientific analysis of contemporary society along with the new trends in social and Scientific methodology.
Our focus is to emphasize both theoretical and relevant applied research that cuts across disciplines (without adhering strictly to any particular school of thought), develops scientific temper, rational thinking and is useful to the society at large through innovation and technological aspects.
The objective of Mantaqi Centre for Science & Society is also to encourage respectful attention to scientific tradition as well as develop cutting-edge tools and concepts from the contemporary social and scientific research. We have to remember that when we try to make society change for better, the real challenge is how to prepare a smooth path and devise methods to scale up such desired changes.
The Centre has been established in 2010 with a mandate to undertake the multidisciplinary Research. Mantaqi Centre for Science and Society is one of the important Centres of Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST). The Centre has been contributing in addressing the pressing social issues through research, education and capacity building.
The Centre intends to further enhance its academic and research activities by offering Doctoral/PhD programmes, Open Electives, Short term training and certificate courses etc. As a part of institutional social responsibility, the Centre is adapting village and school to create awareness and enhance the skills among the society, especially the youth.
In order to proliferate and popularize the scientific temperament in society there is a need to integrate science, society and technology and I am sure the MCSS has a vital role in increasing our understanding of how the wider community engages with science, and how and why scientific ideas and concepts are vitally important to societies today. I as the head of the Centre welcome you all and hope that through this meaningful platform together we can build a functional link between science and society.
