About us
Recognising its role as an institution for the benefit of society as a whole, IUST has been involved with the local community in various capacities since its inception. In addition to academics and research, IUST intends to be at the forefront of creating value-based programs that have a positive social impact. The idea is to create a ripple in the community and empower people to take charge of their lives in a more fruitful manner. The program intends to be elicitive in nature, recognising that such programs can be sustainable only when the community is involved in its design as well as implementation.
It was in this context that the Office of Dean Outreach was created in 2022, under the aegis of which the Office of Community Connect functions to give a centralised shape to make the activities more efficient and better coordinated.
The Office of Community Connect acts as a liaison between IUST and the local community, identifies issues and concerns, and designs interventions with the help of expertise from within the university and outside to create awareness, and to address the issues to the best of our capacity. The six main areas that have been identified for this purpose are: health, drug de-addiction, vocational/skill-based training, education, farmer awareness, and media. Under these six main areas, departments from IUST put forth their proposed activities, which were collated by the Office of Community Connect, and will be implemented in coordination with the departments that had put up the proposals.
